One in seven American adults is affected with chronic kidney disease.  Kidney disease kills more people than breast or prostate cancer.  About, 47,000 Americans died from kidney disease within only one year.  SAVE KIDNEY, SAVE LIFE! 

Raising awareness about kidney health is everyone's duty. Iranian American community comprised of more than one million living in the US with the largest concentration in Los Angeles area, is significantly contributing in UCLA CORE Kidney Program aiming to raise awareness about Kidney Health in Los Angeles area and beyond.

Niloofar Nobakht, MD, FASN:

Dr. Nobakht is a Nephrology faculty member at UCLA.

Dr Nobakht grew up in a Persian family who had a very high level respect for medicine and kidneys. She highly supports the mission of kidney disease awareness in our society in both research and the clinical field.

She completed a kidney disease research fellowship at the University of Colorado Health Science Center in Denver, Internal Medicine residency training at the University of Southern California and the clinical Nephrology Fellowship at the David Geffen School of Medicine, Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. Since then she has been working at UCLA as clinician researcher and educator ... Chronic kidney disease is one of the silent killers that is worse than many cancers which affects human life span. She believes that we can definitely play an important role to decrease the speed of this silent killer. 

Mohammad Kamgar, MD:

Dr. Kamgar is a Clinical Educator Nephrologist faculty at UCLA with an active role in hospital setting patients care and ESRD (end stage renal disease) program.

He has been a long-term support for the UCLA CORE Kidney Program to raise kidney education awareness.

Ehsan Nobakht MD, FASN

Ehsan Nobakht MD, FASN is a kidney doctor and faculty member at George Washington University. He supports UCLA CORE Kidney Program aiming to raise awareness about Kidney Health.

Radio Hamrah:

Radio Hamrah is a Persian radio station based in Southern California serving the millions of Persians speaking individuals around the world. This station was founded to fulfill a mission built on several guiding principles. With many thanks to Dr. Holakouee, Radio Hamrah and its staff, they strive to safeguard, uphold and enrich the Persian culture and language, and to preserve this heritage through future generations. It seeks to inspire and entertain its listeners, enhance their knowledge and aptitude, and galvanize a hopeful new vision for all Iranians. Radio Hamrah aspires to be the bridge connecting Iranians all around the world through cooperation, compassion, and unity.

Safa Shahidi, Composer, Music Consultant and Kidney Awareness Advocate:

Safa Shahidi is a very well-reputed pianist and music composer. 

Performing Career: Shahidi gave several well-received recitals world-wide in the Middle East, Europe, and the United States of America performing a vast repertory from Scarlatti, Bach, Mozart, Schubert, Mendelssohn, Brahms, Scriabin, to his own compositions. He also played in Two Pianos Ensemble for almost ten years and played two piano pieces from Rachmaninov, Arensky, Lutoslawsky, Chopin and more.

Composing Career: Inspired by Persian Folklore and traditional music of his homeland, Shahidi has composed several pieces for piano solo and two pianos which performed at his concerts. You can find in his works oriental intervals, rhythms and melodies conveyed within the framework of Western classical music which creates a blend of sounds bringing East and West culture together.

Shahidi is a member of the CORE Kidney Program, Green Ribbon Campaign (GRC). His musical background is a unique part of the campaign, raising awareness by bringing together music and the medical knowledge on kidney disease. As a music composer and consultant of the Clinical Music Program, he contributes his musical expertise with the knowledge of kidney-specialist physicians to open the dialogue around prevention and to slow down the progression of kidney disease in our society. https://youtu.be/GiOgSNSVUrU

Mahtab Mojab, Fashion Designer:

Mahtab Mojab was born and raised in Shiraz, Iran.  Shiraz is a city known for its rich history in art. She started her fashion career in 2004 with the world famous designer, Bijan. She developed her artistic skills by being thoroughly involved in the design and collection development process. In addition, she helped facilitate the brands marketing and advertising campaigns. Mahtab Mojab is in the center of designing and developing seasonal collections for women under her own brand name "Mahtab Mojab". She is known for her avant-garde taste and has always been admired amongst her fans as being a trendsetter when it comes to style.

Mozhgan Mojab, Physical Therapist and Philanthropist:

Mozhgan Mojab is a physical therapist with more than 26 years of advanced , innovative and intuitive physical therapy experience with a unique passion and diligence in care for her patients. She is also a philanthropist and Co-founder and President Emeritus of Persian Watch Center an Iranian American Anti Discrimination Council as well as Political Editor of Iran Today Newspaper. She is a great supporter of the UCLA CORE Kidney Fair.

Nikki Kamgar, KIDney Zone Champion:

 Nikki is 6 years old and her parents, Dr's. Nobakht and Kamgar, her uncle and grandfather are all nephrologists.  She is growing up in the world of nephrology and kidney awareness!

The UCLA CORE Kidney Program aims to improve kidney health through Clinical Excellence, Outreach, Research and Education (CORE). 

Every dollar counts: due to the incredible generosity of donors at last year's Kidney Fair, we were able to fund future educational health fairs, and free educational monthly seminars that provide the support, education and resources for those who have kidney disease or want to learn more about them.
